Steak Rolls with Creamy Sriracha Dipping Sauce
A deliciously healthy appetizer recipe for adorable steak rolls with a creamy sriracha dipping sauce. This sophisticated pairing of flavors is sure to impress.

  • 1 lb Tri-Tip steak (I always recommend organic, pastured, or grass-fed steak)
The Steak Marinade
  • 7 Tablespoons of soy sauce (gluten free)
  • 1 Tbs of avocado oil (or other high heat oil such as safflower)
  • ½ cup of chives, diced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, minced (no need to peel, just wash)
  • 3 small cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1½ cups chicken broth
  • 4½ Tbs. orange soy sauce (yeah, they make that, and it's gluten free! Click here for link)
  • Pepper (freshly ground)
Stir Fry Ingredients
  • 2 tsp oyster sauce
  • 2 Tbs orange soy sauce
  • 2 inches fresh ginger, peeled and minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, crushed (crush using a mortar and pestle)
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1½ tablespoons of soy sauce (gluten free)
  • 4 Shitaki mushrooms cut for length
  • ½ small red pepper, cut into matchsticks
  • 1 carrot, cut into matchsticks, about 6" long
  • 8 green onions, cut to 6" in length, with white parts split into quarters
  • 1 head bok choy, cut into 6" long matchsticks
  1. Put your steak in the freezer and set a timer for 30min. This will make cutting it into thin slices really easy.
  2. (This is a great time to sharpen your knife, so that you can get thin, uniform slices.)
  3. Add the marinade ingredients to a bowl and stir until all of the ingredients are mixed to your satisfaction.
  4. After 30 minutes in the freezer, slice your steak into long thin slices.
  5. Place steak strips in marinade making sure that they are fully immersed. Put in fridge and let the spices socialize with the steak for a minimum of one hour.
Make the Creamy Sriracha Dipping Sauce.
Prepare your stir fry ingredients.
  1. Heat up a stir fry pan to a high heat with 2 tablespoons of avocado oil (or other high heat oil such as lard, safflower, sunflower).
  2. Add stir fry ingredients and mix vigorously for two minutes. Remove contents into separate bowl.
Putting it all together
  1. Divide your ingredients equally and place on the center of your steak strips.
  2. Roll the strip over the ingredients so that it is similar to a hay roll. Secure with toothpick.
  3. Place a stainless steel or cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add 1-2 Tbs. avocado oil to the pan, and let heat until the oil shimmers and will spread easily over the pan.
  5. Once hot enough, use tongs to place the steak rolls on the pan. Let sear on both sides for 60-90 seconds, or until steak easily releases from the pan (tip: meat will stick to a stainless steel or cast iron skillet until it is "done". When you can easily remove the meat from the pan, it's done cooking).
  6. Sprinkle sesame seeds over steak rolls and plate.
  7. Drizzle the creamy sriracha sauce over the steak rolls or use as a dip.

Simply freeze and slice the steak and make the marinade and sriracha dipping sauce the night before. Pop the steak into the marinade in the morning before heading off to work. That night, slice the stir fry ingredients and simply stir fry the veggies and the meat together, drizzle with the sriracha sauce and serve over rice.That's delicious too!
